Now Offering Qi Gong Classes

We anounced on our Facebook page that we are offering qi gong at STTPCA now. It will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00-7:00 on an ongoing basis. The class is designed to be good for a person coming for the first time, or for a person who has done qi gong for a while.

And for the first week (December 1 and 3, 2015), classes will be free. All you have to do is sign up! You can do this on our website the same way as you book online, just in the Classes tab instead of the Appointments tab. Our space is limited, so please sign up or call ahead to reserve your place.

What is Qi Gong?

Qi gong (气功) is a system of exercise that promotes health. It is meant to help Qi circulate through the body, thus reinforcing the processes that Qi does within the body. Qi promotes the metabolic functions of the body, creates warmth, defends the body from infection, consolidates or holds everything in its proper place and also allows for us to discharge what we do not need, and promotes transformation (in this case think digestion!)

Our Instructor

Kelly Whelan-Enns is the instructor and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him. He believes that everyone should have their own personal toolbox of body awareness to keep themselves strong and healthy. Growing up with the kind of severe asthma and bronchitis that had him waking up in the middle of the night in the hospital as a kid left a very strong impression. At the age of 13, Kelly convinced his parents to let him attend a workshop on qigong. In this first workshop he learned the Ba Duan Jin – the 8 Pieces of Brocade (八段錦). After only casual practice of the 8 Pieces of Brocade, at the age of 17, his asthma, bronchitis and many of his allergies had vanished. He never looked back. Kelly has since dedicated himself to learning everything possible about qigong and the various arts built upon qigong/neigong (deep tissue conditioning) concepts including the Chinese Internal Martial Arts of Taijiquan, Baguazhang and Xingyiquan. He brings 32 years of martial arts training, conditioning and 27 years of qigong practice, exploration and education to his classes and everyday life. As a teacher Kelly cherishes the privilege of being able to share with and support others as they walk their Path in life. He has a strong belief that self-care should include tools that support the mind, heart and body all at the same time. If we do not listen we cannot hear. Learning to listen to one’s own body is the greatest gift we can give ourselves. Along his path Kelly has done STOTT Pilates teacher training and time at the University of Winnipeg doing a double major in Psychology and Religious Studies. His day job researching policy and supporting environmental advocay lets him make use of other shiny pieces of paper which include diplomas in Public Relations and Business Management.

Come on down, and check out what we are talking about.

Drop in rates for qi gong classes after this week will be $10 each. We also have monthly rates of $60 for those of you who like to attend all the classes and 10 class rates of $80 for those that expect to come less often. We would love to see you in the class.
